Bethany Dickens is a playwright, actor, and arts advocate from Orlando, Florida. Her creative writing employs magical realism and unconventional narrative structures to tell stories about relationships and artistic expression, with a particular focus on LGBTQ+ individuals and themes. Her works have been performed at MadLab of Columbus, The Actors Guild of Parkersburg, FUSION Theatre in Albuquerque, Emerald City Theatre in Memphis, Funky Little Theatre Company in Colorado Springs, and as part of the Rockport, Massachusettes New Year’s Eve Festival. Fusion Theater of Albuquerque selected her short play, “Inevitable” as the 2018 Andaluz Award Winner and the piece received critical acclaim for its groundbreaking structure and energetic style. Most recently, her play “American Love” received audience choice awards for best script and best overall show at the “Native Voices” festival of central Florida. Her first full-length play, Exit Wound, was a finalist for the Actors Guild of Parkersburg’s “Giving Voice” Initiative and also received a partial reading as part of the University of Cincinnati’s Summer Playwriting Workshop.
In addition to her creative exploits, Dickens is also a devoted mentor and teacher, working with local high school theater programs and Central Florida Community Arts, and is a National Mentor for the Young Writer’s program at MadLab Theatre in Columbus, Ohio.
